Two routes

Which pathway is yours?

The training prepares you for two separate certifications from the International Board of Undersea Medicine. You choose your route when you register.

Pathway 1

Chamber Operator / IHT

For chamber operators, hyperbaric technicians and support staff.

  • Safe chamber operation to international standards
  • Pre-treatment checks
  • Patient monitoring during a session
  • Emergency response and safe decompression

Prerequisite: current CPR/AED qualification and initial first responder training or equivalent.

Pathway 2

Functional Medicine Hyperbaric Clinician

For licensed providers integrating HBOT into their practice.

  • Patient evaluation and candidate selection
  • Evidence-informed treatment protocols
  • Treatment planning within your scope of licence
  • Patient education and compliance

Prerequisite: licence as ND, DC, MD, DO, NP, ARNP, PA or a board-approved equivalent.

You are also welcome without any certification intent — select “Attendance only” in the registration form.

Structure

Three days that build on each other.

From the physical principle through the engineering to application with people — each day ends where the next one starts.

Days 1 to 3 in the seminar room, day 4 at the chamber. Provisional programme; exact times will be confirmed with your booking confirmation.

Day 1 — Fundamentals and physiology +
The physics of pressure, the gas laws and what they mean in practice. What happens in the body under pressure: oxygen transport in plasma, uptake and release, limits and risks. Introduction to the framework of hyperbaric medicine.
Day 2 — Engineering, safety and chamber operation +
How modern chamber systems are built, life-support and safety architecture. Pre-treatment checks, operating procedures, risk identification and emergency response — worked through with real cases and operating scenarios.
Day 3 — Application, protocols and exam preparation +
Treatment planning, protocol design and candidate assessment. What the evidence supports — and what it does not. Final review and focused preparation for the IBUM examination.
Day 4 — Hands-on at the chamber +
Sunday 22 November — optional and included in the price. From theory into practice: chamber set-up and operation, pre-treatment checks, pressurisation and decompression, communication with the patient and emergency procedures. In small groups and supervised throughout. If you need to travel earlier, the training concludes as normal on Saturday.

Questions

Before you book.

What language is the training in? +
The entire training is held in English, with no translation and no interpreter. Materials and the book are in English too. You should be comfortable following technical discussion in English.
Do I need prior knowledge? +
For the Chamber Operator / IHT pathway you need a current CPR/AED qualification and first responder training. The clinical pathway requires a provider licence. Without certification intent you can attend with no prior knowledge.
Is there hands-on work at the chamber? +
Yes — on the optional fourth day. Thursday to Saturday is taught in the seminar room: lecture, case work and discussion. On Sunday 22 November you work at the chamber itself: operation, pre-treatment checks, pressurisation and emergency procedures. That day is voluntary, included in the price and needs no separate registration — if you would like to stay, you are very welcome.
How many seats are there? +
Fifteen. That limit is deliberate, so every question gets asked and real discussion is possible. If the training is full you can join the waiting list — we will contact you personally as soon as a seat opens up.
How can I pay? +
By credit card or SEPA direct debit through our payment provider Stripe. Your invoice is issued automatically by email. Close to the event, card payment is the only option, because a direct debit can take up to 14 days to clear.
Can I cancel? +
Yes, according to the cancellation schedule in § 12 of our terms. You may also name a substitute participant free of charge at any time. Consumers additionally have a fourteen-day right of withdrawal.
Is the IBUM examination included in the price? +
No. The USD 200 examination fee is paid separately and directly to IBUM. You register and pay at ibum.org.
